About Me
My name is Michael Blackmon. I am a first year partner at the Tepper School of Business at CMU. I was born in Portland, Oregon and spent most of my whole life there. Yet, somehow I am in Pittsburgh.
I wonder what my life would be like had I not decided to visit my sister a little over three years ago. At the time, she lived in San Francisco. Shortly after my arrival she told me that we would be going to a fancy beer bar called “Toronado.” My sister also told me her friend Erin would be bringing along her friend Julia, who was very pretty. It was love at first sight.
After a whirlwind courtship and an “If you move to Portland I will move anywhere you want one day” deal, she moved to Portland. We bought a house and a little dog. About a month later we started discussing Julia going back to school. Knowing that we would eventually move to Los Angeles to be closer to her parents, I nixed all the West Coast schools. Julia crossed off most of the southern schools. From there it was easy to narrow down her choices. In the end, Pittsburgh and Tepper won.
My experience here has been much different then most of the other partners so far. Before moving to Pittsburgh I was the construction manager and then service manager of an HVAC company. It was a lot of fun, but I must say, not working is so much better. I have not found a job or even looked for one really. Instead, we decided I would be a stay at home husband. I thought nothing could be better. I cook her dinner, clean the house and take care of the dog. I was right; this is a nice “job.”
