In Germany, I'm loving WHU. It is a private school in Koblenz, Germany. Wonderful environment; wonderful professors and staff. I have been completely engaged the entire time I've been here.
On the educational front...WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management has exceeded our expectations in what we would learn and do academically while in Europe.
Neither the alumni nor Tepper staff ever completely clarified the volume of cool knowledge we would get from this experience. Since the WHU professors are also consultants/advisors in the fields in which they are experts, and are currently working with large German corporations advising them on corporate, operational, R&D, and marketing strategies, we are gaining access to their current research.
It is great to hear about their research and the differences in European Union labor and corporate laws. Today we studied Patent Analysis. We were all shocked how interesting this subject was; we were expecting to zone out. Who knew, that many major companies are beginning to use patent analysis more frequently in making M&A decisions and manage their Intellectual Capital in this way?
We have class instruction complemented by governmental and company visits scheduled for each week that we are in Germany and Slovakia. We have already visited the European Central Bank and TRW brake manufacturing plant; in addition, we have visited Mohr & Sohne Winery for a wine tasting and history of winery in Germany, a presentation by Bayer, AG discussing the M&A strategies with Schering, and 2-hour visit by the CEO of BP AG to discuss BP’s corporate strategy. We also inmplemented our Patent Anaylsis knowledge by visiting the SAP office an talking with the R&D team.
This trip is very well organized!
Sincerely, ANY travel abroad opportunity you can take advantage of while you are at Tepper—take advantage of it. I have learned a lot from both the China program and the current European study abroad program?. Yea!
