Spring Break was fantastic. I went on a pre-planned vacation to Belize. One reason why I went is because it was relatively cheap, and the other reason was that I wanted to learn more about that country. It is completely different from other countries in Central America. First, English is their language, although you will hear Creole and Spanish. In addition, they became independent from Britain in 1981. I wanted to see the progression. It was interesting.
Now, I am sitting here—the day before class begins—trying to prepare myself for the last round of schoolwork before I begin my internship at the Federal Reserve Bank in New York. Ugh, class! I am excited about my internship. I will be in New York near my best friend and another very special friend, and I will learn so much working at the Fed.
The internship process has been humbling, but at least it put things in perspective. Through the interview processes, I could see how my thinking has changed. My approaches to various business problems/questions are different. A CMU Staff member told me that I would have an ‘awakening’ this summer when I realize how probability, statistics, economics, and all my other quant classes actually will affect my business sense. Ha, ha….I cannot wait to actually use some of this newfound knowledge. and to see how all of these quant skills will actually benefit me in work.
